The Effects of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy(MBCT) on Parenting Stress and Meta-cognitive Awareness of Mothers with Handicapped Child

Abstract
The purpose of study was to verify the effects of mindfulness based cognitive therapy(MBCT) on parenting stress and meta-cognitive awareness of mothers with handicapped children. The subjects were 17 mothers with handicapped children in Kyoung-Nam district(8 in experimantal group, 9 in control group). The experimental group took the mindfulness based cognitive therapy which was conducted once a week for 8 times. Parenting Stress Scale and Meta-Cognitive awareness Scale were used for measurement. The mindfulness-based cognitive therapy showed significantly more decrease on parenting stress than before MBCT, and significantly more improvement on meta-cognitive awareness than before MBCT. The implications of this study are that the mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is a effective method for improvement of psychological functioning of mothers with handicapped children.
